Relocation Assistance (based on eligibility)
Under the supervision of the Oncology Genetic Counseling team lead and program coordinator the Genetic Counseling Assistant provides support to the Genetic Counselors and referring Physicians. The Oncology Genetic Counseling Assistant performs administrative and basic duties necessary to assist Genetic Counselors in providing counseling and risk assessment for genetic conditions to patients and families.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level:
Provide administrative support to genetic counseling staff. This may include:
obtaining and recording data for medical records
supporting chart development
creating and saving patient pedigree
sending pedigree and test reports to patient?s via patient portal
preparing letters of medical necessity
uploading information into EMR
calling patients with negative results
supporting appointment scheduling
serve as a liaison between referring providers and genetic counseling team
other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Support collection and preparation of genetic tests. This may include:
maintaining inventory of test kits
collecting and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis
pick-up and delivery of specimens
facilitating prior authorization
completing test requisition forms
tracking tests, communicating with outside labs
following up on missing samples or samples requiring recollection
communicating with families about insurance authorization for testing
other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Support department quality improvement projects and initiatives. This may include:
gathering and providing data
recommending quality improvement opportunities
supporting development of patient education materials and resources
other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition.
Education:
Associate's degree required
Bachelors with focus on science field preferred
Experience
Work generally requires six months of experience in the healthcare setting. Education in a health related field can be used as a substitute for the experience.
