The Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a physician to lead the Section of Clinical Genetics. CHoR at VCU has a commitment to provide quality patient care and service excellence. Children’s Hospital of Richmond of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has devoted to excellence in clinical care, teaching, and clinical, translational, and basic research. The Section of Clinical Genetics offers inpatient and outpatient consultations and genetic counseling services for genetic conditions across the lifespan.
Responsibilities of the Position:
Teaching: Will contribute to the clinical supervision and education of residents, medical students, genetic counseling graduate students, and ancillary staff. This will also include mentoring of junior faculty and Didactic teaching in MS Genetic Counseling Program and VCU School of Medicine.
Research: Will engage in scholarship through presentations at national meetings, contributions to peer-reviewed scientific literature, and active participation in appropriate professional organizations.
Service: Will participate in regional, national, and international conferences with clinical colleagues. Participation in departmental, institutional, and national committees is encouraged, when appropriate.
Clinical: Active participation as a clinician in various clinics and other settings, including telemedicine, and sharing call and consultative responsibilities with other Clinical Genetics physicians. VCU Clinical Genetics sees patients across the lifespan, from preconception to end of life. Candidates can expect to see both pediatric and adult patients with the majority of those appointments being held on our downtown Richmond campus in both our adult outpatient pavilion and our pediatric outpatient pavilion.
Administrative: Responsible for section growth and development, strategic planning, expansion, quality improvement, and fostering relationships within the Department and VCU Health and genetics community. Supervision of section MD’s, APP’s and genetic counselors, metabolic dieticians, and ancillary staff.
Requirements of the Position:
The applicant must exhibit dynamic and innovative clinical and teaching skills, including in teaching and training of graduate and medical students. The position requires demonstrated clinical and teaching experience.
MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree with Certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) in Clinical Genetics and Genomics.
Candidates must be qualified for full, unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia.
Candidates must have previous leadership experience or a minimum of 8 years of experience providing patient care.
Must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required.
