We have an exciting opportunity for a Cytogenetic Technologist to join our Histology team in Indianapolis, IN! This position will perform all routine and special Cytogenetics procedures, microscopic analysis and maintain quality control.
The schedule for this position will be: Monday-Friday, 8am - 5:30pm
Essential Functions
Reagent preparation and reagent labeling
Perform and evaluate trouble shooting, document all corrective actions as needed
Quality Control, document daily performance criteria of reagents and equipment
Assist in the validation of new test methods/instrumentation/reagents Perform FISH hybridization and washes on a variety of specimen types
Perform scanning and microscope analysis of FISH slides
Review test requisition to gather pertinent details for analysis
Distinguish between normal and abnormal test results
Perform FISH processing, probing and scoping
Responsible for reagent preparation and reagent labeling
Perform and evaluate troubleshooting, and document all corrective actions as needed
Quality Control: Document daily performance criteria of reagents and equipment
Evaluates acceptability of results with signatory review
Responsible for the evaluation of modifications for improvement of current methods
Assist in the validation of new test methods, instrumentation and reagents
Participate in inter-laboratory proficiency testing
Responsible for the following administrative tasks: patient worksheets, quality control records, and procedure modification trials
Participate in the training of employees
Education/Qualifications/Certifications and Licenses
U. S. Requirements
Individual must qualify as testing personnel under the following CLIA 1988 and New York State Department of Health requirements:
· Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science or other life science with completion of at least a 12-month training program in Medical Technology.
OR
· Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical or biological science from an accredited college or university and one year training and/or experience in the specialty in which testing is to be performed. Such training must be equivalent to that received in a school of Medical Technology.
OR
· 90 semester hours from an accredited institution that include the following:
1) 16 semester hours of biology courses, which are pertinent to the medical sciences
2) 16 semester hours of chemistry (at least 6 semester hours of Inorganic Chemistry)
3) 3 semester hours of math
· Completed an accredited clinical laboratory training program, or one year documented laboratory training or experience in the specialty that testing is to be performed.
ASCP certification in Cytogenetics (CG) or eligible
