Excellent opportunity to join a well-established university-based cancer genetics program. Our multi-disciplinary team consists of oncologists, surgeons (breast, gyn/onc, endocrine), gastroenterologists, and the Director who is boarded in genetic counseling and medical genetics. The Penn State Cancer Genetics Program receives over 1,000 new patient referrals annually with a wide variety of hereditary cancer indications. This position provides dedicated pediatric cancer genetic support to the patients, faculty and staff. S/he will be a clear and dedicated genetic resource that will serve to provide guidance on all genetic testing and results and work 1:1 with our Pediatric Hem/Onc providers to interrupt results and lay out future genetic treatment courses.
Performing a thorough review of patient/family history and identify genetic testing options
Assist with oversight of universal screening program
Coordinate both clinical and research-based genetic testing and communicate test results to patients
Discuss management strategy to address identified risks(s)
Document patient care by creating/maintaining detailed consultation reports
Participate in the education of students, residents, fellows, and the lay community about clinical genetics
Graduation from a Master’s level program in genetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling
Board certified/board eligible with certification (obtained within one year of hire) by the American Board of Medical Genetics or American Board of Genetic Counseling
Genetic counseling license or provisional license from the Commonwealth of PA prior to start of employment
Interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and self-awareness
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
