Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL), Genetics and Genomics, invites applications for a full-time laboratory cytogeneticist position based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Edmonton is a diverse and thriving metropolitan city of over one million residents offering world-class out-door pursuits as well as a breadth of festivals and cultural events. Our North sector laboratories are situated at the University of Alberta Hospital site which offers access and academic association with one of Canada’s top 5 universities and one of the best teaching and research medical faculties in Canada. APL is a multi-site, province-wide laboratory providing comprehensive laboratory services. APL performed 76 million tests last year, including comprehensive genetic and genomic testing in the areas of constitutional and cancer cytogenetics, biochemical genetics, newborn screening, and molecular genetics for patients across Alberta. Job Summary & Responsibilities Clinical responsibilities for the successful candidate include shared coverage with triage, technical oversight, case interpretation, reporting, and consultation, and will participate in the clinical oversight of the laboratory quality assurance program, development and monitoring of laboratory protocols, and other administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate will provide expert laboratory genetic consultation, assist in establishing efficient and effective operation of the laboratory, and provide input on resource allocation and translational research. Teaching responsibilities include education of medical students, residents, clinical fellows, as well as staff and students within the laboratory and opportunities for classroom-based teaching at the University of Alberta. Prospects for clinical collaborative research are available and encouraged. The successful candidate will be expected to apply for a University of Alberta Clinical Academic Colleague appointment. Clinical laboratory geneticist positions report directly to the respective laboratory lead, who will provide general direction concerning daily responsibilities/activities. Opportunities exist for cross-coverage in molecular genetics depending on operational needs as well as the qualifications and interests of the successful candidate.
