Establishes testing, policy and direction for areas of responsibility. Responsible in concert with the section supervisor, laboratory manager and department director, in planning, participating in, and managing all operations of their section in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine to include ensuring a safe environment and facilitating fiscally responsible operations. Responsible for final analysis and interpretation of results for all testing and issuance of accurate, timely reports. Conducts analysis, development, and implementation of methods and systems to improve overall effectiveness of services and functions. Accountable for implementing focus on quality, clinical care, education and research.
Work Schedule: Day Shift, 9:00am-5:30pm/ Fulltime
Work Location: St. Petersburg, FL
M.D. or Ph.D. in Genetics, or relevant scientific/medically related subject
Completed a Genetics Fellowship Training Program as applicable to the laboratory section
Previous experience at the director level in the appropriate area is preferred
Board Certified in Clinical Cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Additional Board Certification or board eligible in Molecular Pathology preferred [Note: If hired when board eligible must be board certified within three (3) years or one (1) testing cycle, whichever comes first]
Current, or eligible for, Clinical Laboratory Director's License in Cytogenetics from the State of Florida.
Ability to oversee testing, evaluate and direct all aspects of the specific laboratory section including quality control, procedures, and protocols, diagnostic and prognostic interpretation and reporting
Ability to manage simultaneous demands effectively in a multi-task environment
Possess good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to organize work and meet deadlines
Knowledge of and ability to use computers and multiple software applications
