Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior IOM/Research Specialist.
In this role, the successful candidate will perform intra-operative monitoring and/or assist in the performance of electro-diagnostic tests, as directed by the Director of Clinical Neurophysiology.
Prepares patient for testing. Gathers and sets up equipment and supplies according to established departmental procedures. Calibrates equipment prior to procedure, ensuring its proper functioning for procedure. Interacts with patients by indentifying self to patient and verifies identity of patient by checking patient ID bracelet. Explains procedure and equipment to patient.Provides for patient privacy at all times. Preps patient using proper departmental criteria and technique to ensure best quality result.
Under the direction of the physician, administers appropriate electrodiagnostic testing. For electrodiagnostic testing, attaches electrodes according to predetermined specifications. Instructs patients on how to relax and cooperate during testing.Generates electrical impulse to stimulate motor response.Completes procedure and assures that all measures have been obtained; removes electrodes from patient and assists patient, as needed.Generates a preliminary measurement report for review by the attending physician.
Performs intra-operative monitoring during surgical procedures and prepare relevant data. Monitors patient during non-critical portions of surgery, noting progress of surgery, room and patient body temperature, blood pressure, anesthetic agents and other factors as instructed by physician. Backs up data collected during surgical procedure. Analyzes data collected, formulates and dictates report for review by Director of Clinical Neurophysiology.Duplicates and collates materials upon request.
Maintains equipment in proper functioning order and assures adequate supplies for performance of tests/monitoring.Cleans and prepares equipment for patient application.Sterilize equipment in accordance with departmental policy.Perform predetermined, preventive maintenance to ensure equipment is operating efficiently.Detects instrument malfunctions and makes minor maintenance adjustment or reports need for major repairs.Maintains appropriate levels of supplies for tests/monitoring.
Demonstrates a commitment to technical development. Attends appropriate conferences, classes and inservices.Utilizes available resources to enhance skills and level of knowledge.Familiarizes himself/herself with appropriate data/reports. Makes recommendation which would enhance patient care.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a High School Graduate or the equivalent; One year related experience required; Ability to operate EP & EMG equipment. Good communication skills required. Requires physical and manual dexterity needed to lift and support patients and to calibrate equipment.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Degree preferred. Two-three years previous experience in clinical neurophysiology laboratory preferred.
