We are seeking a full-time academic clinical molecular geneticist to join the dynamic, dedicated and respected team at Newborn Screening Ontario, based at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. This position comes with opportunity for an academic appointment at the University of Ottawa, commensurate with experience and productivity, as well as membership at the CHEO Research Institute. Salary will be determined by years of experience and academic rank.
In addition to coordinating Ontario’s newborn screening program, NSO operates three clinical laboratories providing both newborn screening and diagnostic laboratory services for all diseases targeted be newborn screening in Ontario, as well as for other inherited metabolic diseases. Our molecular laboratory has been rapidly expanding to provide first tier and reflexive screening tests, as well as molecular diagnostics for all diseases on the large Ontario newborn screening panel. We also provide nuclear genome mitochondrial disease molecular diagnostics.
This is a challenging opportunity requiring excellent communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills to help guide the laboratory team in the efficient delivery of Molecular Genetic Screening and Diagnostic services. The successful applicant will be motivated to provide high quality clinical service, have an interest in clinical research, and will thrive in our team environment. He/she will have excellent teaching skills and enjoy interacting with residents, fellows and graduate students.
Minimum qualifications include a PhD or MD with certification or eligibility for certification in Molecular Genetics by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated relevant clinical and academic experience. Experience in newborn screening, inborn errors of metabolism would be an asset.
