Description Research Assistant I Allergy, Pulmonary, and Critical Care Medicine 1910951 Your Role: Research assistant needed to join a laboratory that employs translational methods to study the lung via in-vivo, ex-vivo, and cellular techniques including multiple mouse models of disease. Our areas of interest include critical illness, sepsis, ICU delirium and long term cognitive outcomes, acute lung injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and lung transplantation. The position involves 50% effort on research in the area of brain dysfunction in critical illness and 50% effort on research in lung illness and injury. The main emphasis for both areas is measurement of biomarkers and development and validation of new assays as needed. The applicant should also be able to provide, with supervision, support for all research enterprises including collection, assessment, and communication of data across the various models employed in the laboratory. They should also be equipped to assist with day-to-day lab operations including supply inventory. This position requires a self-starter preferably with a background in biology or cell science. The applicant should be punctual, very organized, and detail-oriented in maintaining records and maintaining a lab notebook. The ability to effectively communicate with his/her direct supervisor, the laboratory directors, and other laboratory personnel is also required. Skills that are helpful for this position include: pipetting skills, computer skills such as Excel, Word, Power Point, and some knowledge of statistics and graphing. Key Functions: 1. Plan and perform routine basic experiments inclusive of controls 2. Ensure that laboratory is organized and supplies are available 3. Accurate, up-to-date record keeping 4. Maintain databases Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience: Job requires a bachelor's degree. While some laboratory experience is preferred, it is not essential. Techniques will be taught as needed.
