Required Education / Experience
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston Texas is seeking a Board Eligible or Board-Certified Child Abuse Pediatrician (CAP). The program interfaces closely with Galveston County Children’s Protective Services personnel, staff at the Galveston Children’s Advocacy Center, Law Enforcement personnel and the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office. The CAP provides formal consultation to regional CPS Staff in the East Texas Region and provides training for CPS and advocacy staff in a 19-county region. Local, state and federal funding supports a substantial portion of the CAP activities.
In addition, Pediatric Residents rotate through the service for 2 weeks as part of their required assignments. The program also offers medical student electives. The CAP will consult on cases admitted to the University Hospital service and to the Shriners Burn Hospital and to the Inpatient Pediatric service opening soon near UTMB’s League City Campus. There’s also outstanding support from related Radiology and subspecialty services.
A foster care service was opened in the past 18 months which is staffed by primary care pediatrics, a CAP would have the opportunity to participate in this as well. The primary site for medical evaluations is located at The Advocacy Center for Children at Galveston County, creating a close collaboration among the various entities supporting children and families.
