This posting is to hire either a Histotechnologist or a Histology Technician.
Histotechnologist: Prepares specimens and performs testing procedures on pathology specimens that results in the creation of microscopic slide preparations for diagnostic and/or prognostic analysis by the pathology. Applies technical theory to provide overall operations support necessary to maintain and optimize testing activities. Able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off shifts, holidays, on-call, and weekend work assignments. Assists with training of students and employees.
Histology Technician: Performs a variety of technical procedures that result in the creation of microscopic slide preparations. These technical procedures may include: accessioning specimens; specimen processing and microtomy techniques; paraffin, frozen, and plastic. Technical staining procedures include: routine Hematoxylin and Eosin, special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemical staining, and in situ hybridization. Participates in on-call rotations, including weekends as needed. Assists with training of students and new employees.

Qualifications Histology Technician Minimum Education and/or Experience Required (Minimum Job Requirements, Education Requirements, Experience): Associates degree required with coursework including 24 semester hours of the following: at least 12 credit hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology; AND 6 credit hours in chemistry; AND 6 credit hours in biology.
Histotechnologist Minimum Education and/or Experience Required (Minimum Job Requirements, Education Requirements, Experience): Bachelor's degree and HTL certified through the ASCP Board of Registry.
Additional Experience and/or Qualifications (Has Achieved Competency in the Following Areas, Job Knowledge and Additional Considerations): Bachelor's degree in medical technology (MT), Clinical Lab Science (CLS), Chemistry, or a human biological science with 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry preferred.

Graduate of a NAACLS accredited program preferred.
Graduates of the Mayo School of Health Sciences Histology Technician Program will receive preference.
