Provides genetic counseling and psychological support for patients seen through the Clinical Cancer Genetics Services at the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute; collects, reviews, and interprets family/medical histories, medical records, test results, and other relevant/necessary information; coordinates testing and communicates test results to referring healthcare provider; works with multidisciplinary staff to coordinate appointments, referrals, and collection of appropriate records; develops genetics counseling plans, including risk assessment, referrals, education, life planning options, and treatment options; provides counseling and education to patients and their families within the Mitchell Cancer Institute; researches, maintains, and applies knowledge of trends and developments in genetic disease research, testing, and treatment; provides continuing provider education as requested or as referral/testing guidelines evolve; actively participates in a number of specialty tumor boards; assists with program development though marketing, research initiatives, etc.; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required.
Master's degree in genetic counseling from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and certification as a Genetic Counselor with the American Board of Medical Genetics or the American Board of Genetic Counseling within one year of employment.
