The Clinical Genetics Program and Department of Pediatrics at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital are seeking a MD or MD/PhD clinical geneticist certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics. Candidates should have experience in clinical genetics and dysmorphology, and should expect to participate in general genetic clinics, genetic specialty clinics and the inpatient consultation service. Experience in biochemical genetics is preferred. The candidate is expected to participate in selected Pediatric patient care programs and in the education programs for residents and medical students. Faculty members in the Department of Pediatrics have an academic appointment at UNC School of Medicine, and Carolinas Medical Center is a regional campus of the UNC School of Medicine.
The Clinical Genetics Program is a well-established and active clinical and laboratory program, with a large regional referral base, and has a strong emphasis in excellence in patient care and teaching. The Program includes a clinical geneticist, a nurse practitioner, 4 genetic counselors and a metabolic dietitian and is looking to grow to a total of 3 genetics physicians by mid 2019. We work closely with genetic colleagues at Carolinas Medical Center and Levine Cancer Institute including an MD Cancer Geneticist, PhD-cytogeneticist, PhD-molecular geneticist, 8 additional genetic counselors, and support staff. Current areas of clinical activity include general genetics (dysmorphology, MCA, etc), genetic and genomic testing, biochemical genetics, Lysosomal storage diseases, reproductive genetics, and cancer risk assessment.
